Folio Society – Artist Research Muirhead Bone

Scottish born draughtsman and printmaker who was appoimted as the first official war artist and served with allied forces on the western front during the First World War.

His drawings are beautifully rendered in pencil and charcoal and Bone has touched on the atmosphere of western fronts landscapes in a powerful way.

I particularly enjoy his landscapes and the strong chiaroscuro method he uses to create deep shadows.
